Review: The Sweetest Nectar

The Sweetest Nectar @aj_marcus sweet tooth hummingbird finds sugar "daddy" glider
The Sweetest Nectar by A.J. Marcus
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

What could be a better match made in heaven for a hummingbird than a candy making sugar glider? This sweet story may seem a bit sappy or corny with a sweet tooth hummingbird shifter and a candy store owner sugar glider. It is more than just a sugar induced hyper male's dream come true. For Parker, the lone hummingbird shifter, finding his mate being chased by the scary group assassinating shifters is more than he expected. His previous boredom is starting to look good as Parker helps Roger Preston escape from men with guns.

What I like about this series is it expands into other animals. So many times the paranormal romances focuses on the predator animals or throws in a token prey animal like a deer. In this case, Mr. Marcus brings in two unlikely animals: hummingbird and sugar glider. He cleverly incorporates the strengths and weaknesses of these animals into their human counterpart. I liked it and thought it devilishly fun. This series may have a serious undertone of radical killers perpetrating genocide, but it is done in a way that still keep it light and lively. The tone of this story is smooth and fun. Some of Parker's antics may make a reader blink a few times and re-read a passage. Other times, Parker's bravery for such a tiny little shifter is heartwarming.

This second book in the series is a continuation of the first and sets up the next book in the series nicely. The characters in this story are tenacious. The romance is sweet and a bit innocent. This quick read is recommended to m/m paranormal readers who enjoy a little shifter difference.
